Shugborough mystery: The Origin

So, where or when has it started, the mystery of Shugborough Hall. And I am not talking about the official mystery with solving ten letters code on Shepherds Monument. I am about the Secret - occult, demonic rituals which were conducted by Thomas Anson and were written about in my previous post 'The Dark side of Shugborough' .

It is interesting how after finding something you have to go back and look at certain things again, but with different perspective....

Let's start from the meaning of the name itself ....Shugborough.

Simply by Googling it you will find this:

Allegedly it means 'devil or demon mound' or 'hill haunted by evil spirit', derived from Anglo-Saxon word 'scucca', which means 'evil spirit'. I agree with that, there is something like that there, especially if you are there at night. I think twice I was turning myself back, during my active research in the area at night, for no apparent reason just because of that very eerie feeling.

Another interesting thing about Shugborough or as it was known then Shugborough Manor, is it's early history.

Before William Anson had bought that place it belonged to the bishops of Lichfield, basically to the Church. Then, after the Dissolution of the Monasteries around 1540 and changing few hands in 1624 it ended up in the possession of William Anson. Naturally after looking at these things again, I've asked myself: Why would the Church own a place with a name like 'devil/demon mound'. I think the answer is obvious....Those were the days of witchcraft and witch hunting respectively throughout Europe.

I think that Shugborough was originally a place where witches were gathering to perform their black magic rituals on some hill. But eventually they got busted and that place appeared under protection of the Church. It is most likely that it was the Church who named that place in such way, to warn people to stay away from it. In fact there is a huge yew tree at Shugborough, which is widest in Europe and over 350 years old, probably was planted there to protect from that evil spirit by one of those owners of the Manor, who had it before Anson. Why so many owners in such a short period of time, between around 1540 and 1624. Was it something  wrong with that place....not comfortable....

Has William Anson knew about the history of early Shugborough or was it a deliberate purchase directed by someone, hard to say. But what is known is that his great grandson Thomas Anson was doing exactly the same thing as it was done on that 'devil mound' years ago, before the Church became the owner - devil worshiping, summoning demons, bloody sacrifices etc. My personal opinion is that Shugborough under Thomas Anson's rule became some sort of hosting place for black witches and people alike from the elite for gathering on a very special occasions. For the evidence that such occasions really have happened there look at my previous post. It could have been a family business if William Anson really knew about the history of that place, I think he knew....and Thomas was simply following his footsteps with some exterior improvements of the aura of that place. He created his own Arcadia, but even there in Arcadia/Shugborough the Death was present during those gatherings....Et in Arcadia Ego.

But enough about sad in this story....

There is another interesting moment regarding the mystery which I would like to bring your attention to. It is called Cannock Chase.

As you can see on the image Shugborough Hall sits right on the edge of that massive woodland. So what is so interesting about it in regard of the mystery. It was during my research when I came across a website which was dealing with Cannock Chase or to be precise with immense paranormal activity down there.

Some researchers think that this place can easily go into top 10 mysterious places on Earth. There have been sightings of werewolves, hellhounds, UFO's, bigfoot, black eyed children and more....Some sort of entrance or portal to the Otherworld according to some researchers. There is plenty of information about it in the web and YouTube, there is even a book written about it.

Strange, isn't it. I wonder if this is connected to the Shugborough mystery....and if it is....was it the reason or the outcome of  that dodgy activity that was going on at Shugborough.
